Sally Houghton

Sally Houghton, Member since 2016

Plastic Recycling Corporation of California (PRCC) staff have been NCRA members for several decades; as the new Executive Director, I want to continue the legacy of involvement with NCRA. I am Sally Houghton and I have attended events and spoken at NCRA conferences where I feel energized by the community and the passion for sustainability. I have a deep commitment for waste reduction and renewable resources. My role at PRCC is to make the circular economy for PET plastic a reality.
I believe that my experience managing one of the oldest producer responsibility organizations in the country, will help NCRA navigate some different aspects of the environmental community and facilitate more collaboration.

Working in materials management provides me the opportunity to work across the entire value chain of PET recycling, in circularity from production to collection.
NCRA has many areas of focus, including tackling food waste & organics, single-use plastics, and supporting best public policy. I believe that working within the industry and with innovative leaders we can tackle issues and create the best sustainable practices that make economic and environmental sense.

My primary work focus is California, but I have had the good fortune to represent PRCC at several global forums, including the China National Resources Recycling Association, Waste Expo and I am on the Plastic’s Committee of the Bureau of International Recycling.
I would feel privileged to be a board member of this pioneering organization and to help facilitate and direct greater circular sustainability and waste reduction.

RU 2024 Call for Presentations, Speakers and Topics

Call for Presentations, Speakers and Topic Nominations
Applications close Friday October 20, 2023

NCRA is seeking speakers for the 2024 Recycling Update (RU) to share what is new and different in all aspects of waste reduction and Zero Waste. We especially invite speakers who have not yet presented at this dynamic, fast paced event. Join over 300 attendees – in-person and on-line, from local government recycling staff, policy makers, consultants, haulers and processors from across Northern California to hear about the newest and greatest ideas our field.

All speakers have ***10 minutes*** for their presentation and 2 minutes for questions. An advantage is that everyone in attendance will hear your ideas – no breakouts or tracks. We run a pretty tight ship, so it’s important that each speaker be well prepared, and stay within their allotted time.

Whatever topic you propose, your presentations should reflect NCRA’s commitment to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. Please make a conscious effort to address these issues as you prepare your submissions, both in textual and graphic elements. In addition, the selection committee encourages proposals focused on SB 1383 implementation and Reuse & Repair.

Speakers receive free registration as well as one year of membership.  For additional information, please use the form to ask your questions.

Saving The World With Compost, 8/23

👉Replay👈

This month we will talk again about how compost can cool the planet. Specifically, we will talk about how the Biden infrastructure bill has funding to help existing compost infrastructure and how federal funding for compost projects will help.

Show host, John Moore will be interviewing Linda Norris Waldt of the US Composting Council and Sophia Jones of the Institute for Local Self-Reliance about the new federal money, when it will be available, what kinds of projects it will support, and what impact these programs might have.

The Recycling Archives is taking a brief Summer pause and should rejoin the ZWAC show in September. Below are the instructions to join via Zoom.
