Annual Member Appreciation Picnic
and Beach Cleanup

This is a Zero Waste event:
Bring Your Own Essentials:
utensils, plate, napkin, water bottle…
Also, buckets, grabbers, small shovels and bags for the cleanup.

Join us for a day of environmental stewardship, networking,
tamales and more!
Family, kids, friends and dogs welcome!

Non-members are encouraged to chip in $5 per adult.
No one will be turned away for lack of funds.

2023 Election Announcement

 

The 2023 Board Election will be held November 15 – 29. The self-nomination period opens September 1. Candidate Statements will be posted on the website and in newsletter in mid October, and individual ballots will be sent out November 15 to current members. Results will be announced – first to the candidates and then via the December newsletter.

Join ZWAC on June 13 for another informative ZWAC Show. This month features former RU Speaker and NCRA member, Nicole Tai of GreenLynxBay Area Deconstruction Group and Reuse Alliance.

GreenLynx is a construction and deconstruction contractor with a reclaimed building materials facility in Santa Rosa. They specialize in small remodel salvage and full deconstruction projects, and ground up construction as well as remodels. Their two stores sell reclaimed building materials from commercial and residential buildings.

The Recycling Archives will feature a reading by Executive Director Susan Kinsella, about Recycling Pioneer Mark Gorrell discussing about Berkeley’s ecohousing initiative.

Illuminating Change with Zero Waste, 5/23

Join the Zero Waste Advocacy Committee (ZWAC) for its interview with Metro Lighting Founder and former RU Speaker, Lawrence Grown accompanied the Lead Designer, Christa Rybczynski.

This company was founded on it’s core value of using lighting fixture design as a mode of self-expression, with a deep appreciation for the arts. Lawrence and Christa’s extensive experience in the lighting industry, and the team of local artisans, all work with customers to design beautiful and timeless solutions to enhance every space. They do all of this as sustainably as possible, moving towards Zero Waste.

 Many of their products contain recycled, repurposed, or salvaged materials. They are proud recipients of multiple environmental awards, including the the Climate Leader Award by CoolCalifornia and the Acterra Businesses Environmental Award.

SB 1383 Compost Procurement Updates, 4/23

Please join our ZWAC show on Tuesday, 4/11 where we will talk about updates on California’s SB 1383 organics procurement requirement and the implications that has on carbon sequestration as a tool for soil renewal and drawing carbon out of the atmosphere. Anyone in zero waste unfamiliar with carbon sequestration should attend.
In our Archives segment, we will celebrate this time of year and its theme of renewal across many religions, whether it be Passover, Easter, Ramadan, or the joy of the Goddess Demeter that her daughter Perspehone can join the planting season for 6 months. The archives will present some of the many stories of spirituality in zero waste, such as Will Bakx’ feelings towards the compost that he made.
