In 2024, SB 1383 requires CA jurisdictions to complete their second Edible Food Capacity Planning Study covering the years 2024 – 2034. These capacity studies will result in the roadmaps jurisdictions will follow over the next decade to support edible food recovery efforts. Accurate and comprehensive information is important for jurisdictions to clearly understand what support their food recovery organizations need to successfully recover all surplus food from large food generators regulated by SB 1383. Join the NCRA Zero Food Waste Committee for a round-robin style forum where jurisdictions, food recovery organizations, and consultants will have the opportunity to share their thoughts on how to improve 2024 Edible Food Recovery Capacity Planning process. This forum’s goal is to spur new inspiration and ideas for folks who have a role to play in the 2024 planning. The following speakers will share their thoughts to seed the discussion:

  • Susan Miller-Davis, Joint Venture Silicon Valley
  • Monica White, Abound Food Care

When trying to anticipate the impacts of new programs or practices, many organizations struggle to identify the correct lens in which to understand how proposed changes may impact equity within the communities they serve. The San Francisco Environment Department has developed a new tool to analyze the equity impacts of proposed policies or programs, known as a “Racial Equity Program and Policy Scan.” Join the NCRA DEI Committee to learn more about this tool, why you should strive for equity, how it is used, and practice performing an equity scan yourself.
