Election 2024 – Nominate Yourself To Serve On The NCRA Board!

NCRA has been a Recycling and Zero Waste trailblazer since 1978! You can help develop the cutting edge by applying to serve on our 11-person Board of Directors! Five positions will be open this January. Three members are stepping down.

We are seeking candidates that are familiar with NCRA and have actively participated in a committee and/or attended at least one board meeting in the last 12 months.

The October 1 deadline has been extended to October 8. Candidate statements will be posted on the website and in the mid-October newsletter. Ballots will be sent out to current members November 15. Results will be announced in December – first to the candidates and then via the December newsletter.

Zero Waste Education For The Next Generation, 10/23

Our Zero Waste Advocacy Committee Show is joined by two fantastic and enthusiastic educators teaching our next generation about Zero Waste!

We kick off the Show with the Recycling Archives Project featuring Laura Anthony, Founder of Zero Waste San Diego. Together we will listen as Susan Kinsella reads an exciting excerpt of Laura’s interview with Q&A after.

Our featured interview is with Jacqueline Elbing-Omania at Oxford Elementary in Berkeley and former RU speaker Ben Schleifer, Food Program Coordinator at CEH in Oakland. Like the 1970s Crosby, Stills, and Nash song “Teach Your Children Well”, we will hear about making today’s elementary school students into tomorrow’s Zero Waste advocates.

New Bylaws Adopted!

Thank you to all that voted! The new, more streamlined NCRA Bylaws passed with 99.4% of the voters voting for ratification and 0.6% against!

Those that voted against ratification are welcome to contact the Executive Director if you have not already done so. If you were concerned that the policies listed in the 2019 Bylaws would be lost, rest assured these past policies will be included in the Policy Manual currently under development.

As you can see from the SimplyVoting letter posted below, only 53.5% of the NCRA membership voted. Unfortunately, many hours of staff and board time were required to get a slight majority. In the future, we need to make it even more clear to all members – new and old, that voting is an expectation of membership.
