My name is MK and I have been working in the industry since 2021. As a classical violinist, I’m interested in exploring ways to use the arts to inspire individuals and communities to go zero waste. I am also passionate about advocating for an industry culture where respect and appropriate communication are non-negotiable. In the past, I’ve attended DEI and legislative committee meetings.

I have a certificate in Sustainable Waste Management from Fleming College in Ontario, Canada. I worked in waste hauling in Canada then in the Bay Area. During my hauling days, I became interested in addressing contamination. If elected, I would support establishing a new committee to focus on strategies to address contamination.

My hauling experience helped inform my perspective in my most recent role as Sustainability Analyst with the City of Union City. This year I helped lead a Citywide SB 1383 compliant cart/bin exchange. One challenge I faced was designing SB 1383 compliant cart/bin labels that would still be relevant in a post-SB 54/SB 343 regulatory landscape. I believe it’s important for our industry to discuss challenges like this and share practical solutions.

I want to give back to NCRA and help ensure it remains fiscally sound and continues to offer resources and support to members of all backgrounds for years to come.
