Alyssa Rice-Wilson

Alyssa Rice-Wilson, Member since 2017

Hello. My name is Alyssa Rice-Wilson, and I am running for a seat on the Board of Directors. I have been working in the recycling and Zero Waste industry since 1998. Over the past 25 years, I have been leading efforts towards Zero Waste in non-profits, local/regional government, and as an independent consultant. If you know me, you know that I am committed to the path of zero waste both in my professional and personal life. I would like to serve the NCRA membership on the Board through assisting with NCRA’s Recycling Update and other events, and encouraging others in the industry to join and participate in NCRA. Thank you, in advance, for your consideration on the NCRA Board.

I’m excited to announce my candidacy for the NCRA Board of Directors. Currently, I hold the position of Recycling Specialist at Napa Recycling, which has provided me with valuable insights into the recycling and compost industry.

For seven years, I’ve worked with both the private and public sectors, local communities, and environmental organizations to promote waste reduction, resource reuse, and effective recycling and composting programs. For the last three years, I’ve actively engaged with Napa Climate NOW!’s Waste Reduction Committee to advocate for a reusable foodware ordinance. Additionally, I served on the board of Feeding it Forward, a Napa-based food recovery organization, for three years.

As a NCRA member since 2017 and participant in the NCRA Membership Engagement and Activities Committee, I’ve organized the Recycling Update 2023 tour in Napa and helped organize the 2023 NCRA coastal cleanup and annual picnic.

My vision for NCRA is to foster collaboration, encourage knowledge sharing, and address challenges within our community. I believe NCRA’s pivotal role can facilitate dialogue and inspire meaningful actions. Furthermore, I’m enthusiastic about advocating for policies and regulations that promote waste reduction, creating a vibrant reuse infrastructure, and establishing zero waste.

I’m eager for the opportunity to contribute my expertise and passion to advance NCRA’s mission and create a lasting positive impact on our community and the environment.
Thank you for considering my candidacy!

Esteemed NCRA members, my name is Freddy Coronado and I reside in San Francisco. For the past six years I have worked for San Francisco’s Environment Department as the Residential Zero Waste Specialist where I implement the City’s Zero Waste policies across the residential and multifamily sectors. My other duties include the launch of our Fix-It Clinic programming at SF Public Library and ensuring special events comply with our Zero Waste requirements.

My passion and career path has led me to gain tremendous Zero Waste experience, which includes working with property managers, residents, large refuse generators, event producers, and affordable housing properties. This is the career path I’ve always dreamed of and NCRA has taken me under its wings.

Since 2014, I have been an active member and advisor to NCRA’s youth branch, Zero Waste Youth USA and successfully assisted with the production of 10 annual Zero Waste Youth Convergences. Currently, I am a member of the Legislative and DEI committees. This year I am also honored to co-chair the Recycling Update program committee with my RU mentor, Rebecca Jewell.

If elected to serve I will ensure our organization continues to be a national treasure for Zero Waste advocates everywhere. I will promote and advance our DEI goals and strategies. And of course, continue the fast-forward and most up to date recycling and Zero Waste programming for the Recycling Update.

I am looking forward to contributing to, supporting NCRA, chairing the Zero Waste Schools committee and mentoring/advocating Zero Waste Youth in new ways as my career expands with new opportunities unfolding.

If you feel I would bring value to the board, then please support me to be elected to the 2024 – 2026 NCRA Board.

I’ve been a NCRA member since 2019 and a board member since early 2022. As the co-chair of the Zero Waste Advocacy Committee, I’ve been able to get my feet wet with tracking and supporting different pieces of waste-related legislation. I’ve just gotten started and want to accomplish so much more in terms of NCRA’s advocacy work. I’d be honored to have that opportunity by serving two more years on the NCRA board.

As co-chair this past year, I started NCRA’s most recent legislative tracker and began holding monthly legislation meetings. We’re a small but mighty group that discusses important bills, progress, and next steps. I’ve submitted a few letters to the Legislature and Governor on behalf of NCRA, but I want to write far more in the years to come. I’d love to see NCRA’s presence in California legislation expand, including more coordination with like-minded groups. I’d also like to help plan legislative activities for NCRA members like educational webinars or lobbying days.

I love this field, and NCRA has played a critical role in inducting me. Solid waste has so many brilliant people and rabbit holes of waste-related conundrums that need solutions. I’ve been a Zero Waste Coordinator with the City of Sunnyvale for the past four years, and look forward to continuing this path. I’d appreciate your vote for the 24/25 NCRA board!
