NCRA has been a Recycling and Zero Waste trailblazer since its inception in 1978. You can help develop the cutting edge by running to serve on our 11-person Board of Directors!
Five or six positions open every January. It’s a two-year working post. Board Members are expected to attend most Board meetings and actively serve on one or more standing committees, take an active role in our annual conference – Recycling Update, and help organize other events. New Board members receive mentoring from the more experienced members and are not expected to jump in the deep end early on.
The Board meets on the third Thursday of the month via Zoom. Previous to the COVID-19 pandemic, meetings moved around the Bay Area – sometimes in conjunction with tours. We hope to someday return to occasional in-person meeting with Zoom access for those who cannot attend in person.
Directors discuss issues, hold debates and influence regional and national recycling strategy. They also:
-
-
- Lead or co-lead committees and special task forces
- Help produce the annual Zero Waste Week and Recycling Update
- Organize webinars, interviews and events
- Engage regional and national industry leaders
- Tour facilities and meet with operators
- Tackle issues that can’t be ignored
- Work on behalf of colleagues who need a boost
- Track and comment on legislation
-
Hours per month depend on your chosen roles, tasks you take on and how many committee meetings you attend plus time spent reading and responding to emails. Officers average 12 hours a month and the remaining board members average 8 hours per month. The Board Retreat (January), Introduction To Recycling (February), Zero Waste Week and Recycling Update (March) and the Annual Meeting (May) often require additional hours.
Benefits include helping a highly effective group protect and rejuvenate the environment while promoting a waste free economy, as well as free entrance to all NCRA events. Great opportunity to network with movers and shakers. Looks good on your resume as well at interviews and industry meetings.
Nominees must be a current member in good standing. We are seeking candidates that are familiar with NCRA and have actively participated in a committee, attended at least the Annual Meeting and/or a board meeting in the last 12 months.
